One day after her retirement, on a Friday, a doctor at a routine examination of Hanne Dührsen (Iris Berben) encounters symptoms that could imply a serious illness. But since she won't be diagnosed until Monday, thereupon she decides not to tell anyone about the suspicion and to go away alone over the weekend. She finds herself in a hotel in a foreign city and meets a wide variety of people, such as lingerie saleswoman Uli (Petra Kleinert), who married a much older man, and her first love Heiner Witt (Herbert Knaup).
