Based on real events, the drama Utøya July 22 retells the assassination of Anders Behring Breivik on the Norwegian island in summer 2011.
18-year-old Kaja (Andrea Berntzen) is spending the summer day of 22 July 2011 together with many other young people on the Norwegian island of Utøya in the lake Tyrifjord northwest of the capital Oslo. AUF, the youth organisation of the Norwegian Social Democratic Workers Party, gathers the next generation of politicians here, but suddenly at 5:20 p.m. shots are fired. The young people have heard of Anders Behring Breivik's bomb attack in Oslo, but has the killer actually come to them on the island?
